More than eight million people are facing severe water shortages, according to Ethiopia's state-run media, in the areas of the north-western Amhara region most severely impacted by the fighting in neighbouring Tigray.
According to regional authorities, conflict between the federal government and Tigrayan secessionists resulted in the destruction of around 1,500 water sources.
Even though the fighting has stopped, Tigray and Amhara continue to experience severe food, water, and medicine shortages.
The Tigrayan rebels disarmed in accordance with the conditions of the peace agreement, but thousands of Eritrean soldiers who had fought with federal forces are still present.
