According to reports, thousands of Ghanaians were duped into travelling, leaving them stuck in Nigeria and Cameroun.
In a scam involving people from Ghana and Nigeria, the stranded Ghanaians were promised employment chances and visas to move abroad, according to a video report on Akoma FM's Facebook page.
According to the report, the Ghana Police Service detained several of the con artists on Friday, January 6, 2022, in Ejisu, a Kumasi suburb in the Ashanti Region.
One of the fraud victims, a guy, told reporters that he was offered career prospects and a visa to travel abroad but instead found himself stuck in an unfinished building in Nigeria.
He claimed that after paying the travel brokers with the aid of his French buddy, he travelled to Lagos, Nigeria to meet with them in order to arrange his travel.
"I am one of the unfortunate people that got stuck in Nigeria. In Lagos, I met the agent, who drove me to a motel. After three days, the agent took me to a facility in Lagos where I was to have the interview and informed me that I was meant to have one. I met some Ghanaians at the office who identified themselves as security officers, which helped me feel more confident," he stated in Twi.
However, the victim went on to say that when the interviewer started asking him pointless questions, he realized he had been duped.
The news story also included images of the building in Nigeria where some of the scam victims were being held, as well as the police detaining at least six men in Ejisu who are suspected of being engaged in the rip-off.
