The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, has passed on at the age of 82. He served as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland for two years.

His passing occurred at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, shortly after he was admitted on Thursday evening, just 72 hours after completing his second year on the throne.

Born in 1942, the late Olubadan was a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), a former university lecturer, a management staff member of Shell British Petroleum, a former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Nigeria People’s Party (NPP), a Fourth Republic Senator, who represented Oyo Central senatorial district between 1999 and 2003, and a successful businessman.

He ascended the throne on March 11, 2022, after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Oguguniso III, who died on January 2, 2022, after reigning from March 4, 2016. His last official engagement was presiding over the Olubadan Advisory Council’s meeting.

The Olubadan is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren. His burial is scheduled for today, Friday evening, at his Aliiwo ancestral home in Ibadan, following Islamic rites.

Following the succession system of the Olubadan stool, the current Balogun Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who is next in line, will be officially announced as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland after the traditional 21 days of mourning.
