Ofra Farhi, the ambassador of Israel to Zambia, was robbed last week while being protected by bodyguards on a street in the nation's capital, Lusaka. The attackers made off with her cell phone and diplomatic passport.
According to local media, Ms. Farhi was crossing a busy intersection on Friday when a car drew up next to her and the passengers took her bag, which contained an undetermined quantity of cash.
After receiving treatment at a neighbourhood clinic, she went on to her scheduled appointments with neighbourhood officials.
In a statement, the ambassador claimed that, despite the fact that this kind of incident might occur anywhere in the nation, "Zambia is very safe and peaceful "and "very friendly to Israel".
Stanley Kakubo, the foreign minister of Zambia, called Ms. Farhi to reassure her of her safety.
Eli Cohen, Israel's foreign minister, described the episode as an illustration of the perils that diplomatic personnel encounter "to serve the country".
Ms. Farhi further represents Israel in Zimbabwe and Botswana in addition to Zambia.
