Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Oyetola's Participation

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) appealed the Supreme Court's decision to reinstate Bendict Alabi's and Gboyega Oyetola's nullification of their participation in the governorship election on July 16, 2022.

In a ruling on September 30, 2022, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ruled that Oyetola and Alabi could not participate in the governorship election because their nomination forms were endorsed by Mai Mala Buni, an acting Chairman of the APC who was also the current governor of Yobe State.

In December of last year, the Court of Appeal, Abuja, reversed Justice Nwite's ruling, which the PDP appealed to the Supreme Court.

A five-member Supreme Court panel, led by Justice Centus Nweze, ruled on Thursday morning that the PDP's appeal was without merit and ordered the PDP's attorney, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), to withdraw.
