According to the government-owned Herald newspaper, police in Zimbabwe's capital city of Harare are detaining the son of former president Robert Mugabe on suspicion of his involvement in the weekend carnage.

According to the newspaper, Robert Mugabe Jr will probably face charges for intentionally damaging property.

There is no independent corroboration of the report, and neither he nor his attorneys are yet to react.

He is the second child of the late Mr. Mugabe and his surviving widow, Grace.
