Nigerian online streamer and content creator Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has been strictly criticised by TVC News over comments he made about the earnings of Nigerian civil servants.

The backlash started after Peller returned from a luxury vacation in the Maldives with his girlfriend and fellow streamer and content creator, Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, widely known as Jarvis.

In a recent stream, Peller disclosed that he spent over ₦30 million on the getaway and alleged that visitors must have at least $10,000 in cash to enter the country.

The creator's bold claim that the destination is unaffordable for Nigerian civil servants, based on his own spending, triggered a heated national debate.

TVC News slammed his remarks during a studio segment, where a panel of presenters labelled Peller’s views as “rude”, "insensitive", and “out of touch". The broadcasters defended the dignity of government employees, with one broadcaster accusing Peller of “belittling" an honourable profession.

“A lot of Nigerian civil servants can afford that trip ten times over,” one male guest argued, suggesting that Peller’s assumptions about the wealth of all government employees were incorrect.

Another female presenter was more blunt, noting she doesn’t take Peller seriously. “He just opens his mouth and speaks without thinking,” she said.

She went on to criticise the streamer for not showing the same level of excitement for Nigerian tourism during his local tours, adding, “When they come to you to pay tax now… You start crying. He needs to do better.”

The report has sparked a massive divide on social media.

While many observers agreed with the TVC panel that the comments were offensive to the Nigerian workforce, Peller’s supporters rushed to his defence.

Those defending the content creator stated that he was addressing the “harsh economic reality” facing the average Nigerian worker, whose monthly salary would make a ₦30 million vacation an impossible dream. They viewed the TVC segment as an unfair attack on him for revealing a “bitter truth” about the country’s current economy.
