A group of Ugandan mothers who have LGBTQI children wrote a letter to President Yoweri Museveni begging him not to put into law a new draft law that would allow for the imprisonment of anyone who comes out as gay.

The parents said in a letter that was made public by local media that they had watched in fear as "religious zealots, elected authorities, and anti-gay activists" had denigrated and dehumanized their children.

Although homosexual actions are already banned in Uganda, the new measure adds numerous additional criminal offenses, including the prohibition against failing to report individuals who are in same-sex relationships.
