Isale Eko Descendants Union (IDU), a socio-cultural organization, has filed a complaint with the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) about the producers of the film "Gang of Lagos" misrepresenting the Isale Eko community and the Eyo Masquerade as gangsters.

Threats of legal action have been made against the proprietors of the film, which was made available to a global audience last Friday on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service, by the group and other community stakeholders.

Jade Osiberu produced and directed the action film "Gang of Lagos," which was shot at Isale Eko on Lagos Island. The plot revolves around three characters, Gift, Ify, and Obalola, who grew up in the isale Eko community.

According to a statement signed by the chairman of Isale Eko Descendants Union, Mr Yomi Tokosi, the community's Eyo Masquerade was "depicted as being used as a camouflage, decoy, and subterfuge for murderers and gangsters operating in Isale Eko Area."

Part of the statement read, “The attention of the Isale Eko Descendants Union (IDU) has been drawn to the very disturbing violent images of the movie directed by Jade Osiberu and Kemi Lala Akindoju.

“In the movie, ‘Gang of Lagos’, the unique eyo masquerade indigenous to the Isale Eko community in Lagos was illegally and scandalously depicted as being used as a camouflage, decoy and subterfuge for murderers and gangsters operating in Isale Eko Area.’’
