Google has joined forces with Verve, Africa's largest domestic card scheme, to facilitate digital transactions on the Google Play Store, making it easier and more accessible for Nigerians. The partnership aims to strengthen the digital ecosystem in Nigeria, providing a streamlined method for Nigerians to make purchases on the Google Play Store using their Verve cards.

With this collaboration, Google will process Verve transactions within Nigeria, converting them to Nigerian Naira and treating them as local transactions by the country's banking institutions. This means that any Nigerian with an Android device and a Verve card can now seamlessly make purchases on the Google Play Store.

Anthea Crawford, Head of Retail and Payment Partnerships at Google Play, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that it expands Google Play access to more Nigerians and enables them to access the apps they need through local payments with Verve cards.

Vincent Ogbunude, Managing Director of Verve International, emphasized that this integration with Google Play aligns with Verve's vision of promoting financial inclusion. The collaboration brings digital content and services closer to Verve cardholders, bridging the digital divide and extending the reach of digital services to a larger segment of the Nigerian population.

Google clarified that as the foremost payment card scheme in Nigeria, Verve's expanding acceptance promotes inclusion by making digital services more accessible to a broader audience. To take advantage of this exciting development, Nigerians can add their Verve cards to their Google Play Account and easily pay in Naira without any hassle.

To access this new feature, users simply need to open the Play Store, select the app they wish to purchase, click on the displayed amount, and choose "add credit or debit card." They can then enter their Verve card details when prompted. Alternatively, users can visit pay.google.com, log in with their Gmail account, click on 'Add a payment method,' enter their Verve card details, and save them. Once done, they can return to the Play Store to complete their purchase, with their card being automatically charged.

Google emphasized that this partnership not only simplifies the payment process for Google Play Store apps and services but also contributes significantly to creating a more inclusive digital environment for Nigerians. The collaboration between Google and Verve seeks to promote financial inclusion and enhance the digital experience for Nigerian users.
