FG Will Close Energy Gap Through REA– Minister

Edith Omolade Fasehun

The Federal Government has said that initiatives carried out by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) will significantly close the energy divide and supply energy to Nigerians who are now underserved and unserved.

Speaking at the 2023 REA's Management and Board Retreat on Thursday in Abuja, with the topic "Institutional Strengthening for Sustainable Development", Minister of State Power, Mr. Goddy Jedy-Agba said that renewable energy was the quick solution to bridge the electricity gap in the nation, adding that it was why the Federal Government planned to continue to optimize it.

"This administration's attempts to improve energy access through on- and off-grid electrification solutions are praiseworthy, attracting quality investments and private sector participation in the space. Vision 30:30:30, which aims to increase power capacity to 30,000 MW by 2030, with 30% of the capacity coming from renewable sources, must not be overlooked.

Already, we can see how crucial this agency is to this vision and the crucial roles it must keep playing in the international discussion on energy transition and off-grid electrification”, he said.

According to Jedy-Agba, REA is a crucial organization in the electricity sector with a crucial purpose, and it is necessary to consistently reinforce the foundations of service delivery. He further stated that the organization was implementing a number of reforms to strengthen the institutional mechanisms, expand the personnel, and pursue creative programming approaches.

On his part, the Acting Chairman of the REA Board, Mr. Mohammed Badamasuiy, said the purpose of the retreat was to introduce the agency's new workers to the fundamentals of public service. According to Badamasuiy, the intakes were made aware of the service's ethics and code of behavior.

The primary mandate of the REA and what was expected of each employee in terms of achieving the goals of the organization, according to him, were also communicated to the staff members. According to him, REA is an organization eager to fulfill its goal, which focuses on the most disadvantaged citizens of Nigeria and the rural people.
