Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet system has been launched in Indonesia, aiming to connect the country's over 270 million people across three time zones. This is specifically significant for remote areas with limited internet access.

Musk said, I'm excited to bring connectivity to underserved locations; Internet access opens doors to learning anything.

According to reports, the initial rollout focused on three Indonesian health centres, including two in Bali and one on a remote island. A video presentation screened at the launch showcased how Starlink's high speeds can improve healthcare by enabling real-time data collection for issues like malnutrition and stunting.

While Indonesia hopes to attract Musk's Tesla for electric vehicle manufacturing, the current focus is on Starlink and its potential to improve lives. This aligns with the government's goal of prioritising internet access for remote and underdeveloped regions.

Starlink has obtained the necessary permits to operate commercially in Indonesia, offering internet services and network connectivity. With its dominant position in satellite internet, Starlink aims to bridge the digital divide in the country.

Indonesia becomes the third Southeast Asian nation to embrace Starlink, following Malaysia and a Philippine partnership with SpaceX. Notably, Starlink has also played a crucial role in Ukraine, supporting the military, healthcare, businesses, and aid organisations.
