Outside Villa Park, mayhem broke out as three police officers were injured by projectiles thrown at them during altercations between Legia Warsaw supporters and the police. The incident happened before Aston Villa and Legia Warsaw's Europa Conference League match.
Tensions increased and the away fans were barred from the stadium, leaving them confined in a parking lot behind the Witton Lane stand. This decision was made as a result of a dispute over ticket distribution, in which Aston Villa reduced Legia's allocation from the originally agreed-upon 1,700 tickets to just 890 tickets.
According to UEFA regulations, the visiting team is normally allowed to use 5% of the stadium's capacity, meaning that 2,100 tickets would be available at Villa Park. However, the heated scene outside the stadium was caused by arguments over ticket distribution.
In the UEFA delegate's report dated September 21, Legia Warsaw proposed a compromise of 1,700 tickets, matching the quantity allotted to English club supporters visiting Warsaw. However, Legia was displeased and filed numerous appeals with Aston Villa F.C. after receiving a revised decision on November 2 that significantly reduced the number of tickets allotted.
The fans' annoyance increased when they encountered barricades and a row of police officers, causing the officers to don protective helmets with visors. Some fans set off flares as hostilities outside the stadium grew more intense.
The match between Villa and Legia, who are tied at nine points after four games, promised to be an intense battle between the top two teams in Group E while the altercations outside continued. In September, Legia triumphed 3-2 over Unai Emery's team in the rematch in Poland.
This is still a tense situation that reflects a rift between the club, supporters, and officials, overshadowing what should have been an exciting football match.
