Having made 200 international appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo is the first male player to earn the Guinness World Records recognition.
Tuesday's European Championship qualification match saw Portugal defeat Iceland 1-0 thanks to a goal from the Portugal star in the 89th minute.
Ronaldo received recognition from Guinness World Records prior to the game's start for playing 200 games for Portugal, nearly 20 years after his debut.
When accepting the honor, Ronaldo said:
“Triumph with a special flavor. Not only for the day it was, for the tribute, for the 200th game… To top it off with a goal, I can’t ask for more. It was spectacular, unforgettable, for everything it generated around the game. I have to thank the Icelanders, to the federation for the surprise. And to Guinness World Records.”
The achievement is yet another to add to Ronaldo's long list of international football successes.
With 122 goals in 200 games, the Al Nassr forward holds the record for most goals scored in international football history.
