Gift Orban is happy with the deal Tottenham Hotspur has offered him, according to British commentator Dean Jones in an interview with Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, as efforts to sign the Nigerian forward continue to gain momentum.
According to reports on Thursday, the London club and the striker had reached an agreement about personal matters as they continue to look for a successor for star striker Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich this summer.
Jones provided an update on the transaction, stating that Tottenham simply needed to negotiate a deal with Gent for Orban before the summer transfer window closed in order to seal a deal for the striker.
“I expected progress to be made yesterday (Sunday) on that for Tottenham, but I’m not sure it was. That doesn’t look brilliant, but they were first on the scene and they are the most interested,” he said.
“He is convinced of the personal package they have put in front of him, so that is going to be fine, it’s just about agreeing a deal with Gent, so let’s see what happens there.”
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, wants to sign another frontman before the deadline of September 1 after losing Harry Kane, the club's all-time goal scorer, to Bayern Munich in an £86 million deal.
The club is certain that Orban will be able to fill the vacuum left by the Englishman.
The 23-year-old Nigerian played for Gent last season, scoring 20 goals in 22 games while adding three assists. He has continued this prolific goal-scoring form early on in the current season, tallying six goals in six games.
Personal conditions being agreed upon is at least a significant step forward for Tottenham, and the estimated sum of roughly €30 million shouldn't be too problematic considering the funds accrued through the sale of Harry Kane.
