Four Nigerian Wrestlers Secure Olympic Qualification in Egypt

Four Nigerian wrestlers qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday in various events at the ongoing African championships and Olympics qualifiers in Alexandria, Egypt.

The wrestlers will join Odunayo Adekuoroye, who qualified in 2023 after winning a bronze medal in the women's 57kg category at the World Championships in Belgrade. Blessing Oburududu, who won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 2-0 pinfall victory over Palau's Uilau Tarkong in the 68kg category.

Hannah Reuben, the world military champion at 76kg, defeated Amy Youin of Cote D'Ivoire 6-0 to secure a spot in the Olympics in Paris. Esther Kolawole is on the list of Nigerian athletes heading to Paris for the Olympics after defeating Cape Verde's Angelina Rodrigues 10-0.

Christiana Ogunsanya, African Games champion in the 53kg category, defeated Egyptian Shaimaa Mohamed 10-0 to secure qualification. Mercy Genesis, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on the Paris Olympics during this time frame, losing 5-7 to Egypt's Nada Mohamed in the 50kg weight category.

Five female wrestlers will represent the country at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Sunday marked the end of this window's qualifiers. The remaining Olympic spots will be determined from May 9 to 12 at the 2024 World Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.
