The Nigeria Police Force is preparing to host the first IGP Open National Mixed Martial Arts Championship at the indoor hall, Package 'B' of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The championship, dubbed 'ABUJA2023,' is set to take place from December 1 to 4, with the goal of promoting multi-agency collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and other government agencies at all levels in order to meet citizens' demand for people-centric institutions and police engagements.

The organizers state that mixed martial arts athletes, coaches, referees, and physical health education instructors from all Police training institutions will attend a sensitization and orientation seminar titled "NPF MMN, Let's Participate" at the Goodluck Ebele International Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters Abuja, prior to the championship.

The seminar, which is scheduled for December 2, 2023, will serve as a crucial platform for the planning and organization of the IGP Open National Mixed Martial Arts Championship in Abuja 2023, according to the organizers. They also anticipate that it will help raise awareness and create the necessary level of sensitization among all parties involved in mixed martial arts and the general public.

Juliet Ukah, a female police officer in Nigeria, is the current African EFC Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champion. She won the African Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) in April of this year after defeating Crystal Van Wyk of South Africa.

The Nigerian officer left scars on Van Wyk's face before was declared the winner by unanimous vote.
