Finidi George to Coach Super Eagles Till 2026 - NFF Reveals

The terms of the contract awarded to Finidi George, the new coach of the Super Eagles, have been made public by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

The board announced the appointment of the former Super Eagles winger as the coach of the senior national men's team at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Monday.

The specifics of his contract were unknown, while some media sources said the federation had only given him a one-year deal.

Dismissing the claims on Soccer Africa, a popular TV programme in South Africa, the NFF boss stated that he has no idea where the information about a one-year contract came from and that all he knows is that, in terms of Finidi's contract, he will lead the team until the end of 2026.

He stressed that the most important thing in each contract is to set up some indices and objectives to achieve the best performance, and the first objective is to get the team qualified for the Nations Cup the next year, to at least make it to the semi-finals, and to qualify for the World Cup with the ultimate goal of representing our country in the quarterfinals.

Gusau said that George was free to select his assistants without being coerced by the federation. The assistants will be Daniel Amokachi, Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk.

On Friday, June 7th, the Super Eagles will play their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Three days later, the three-time African champions will travel to Abidjan to play Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
