Following the sack of Xavi Hernandez last week, Barcelona has hired the service of former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick on Wednesday on a contract that runs until June 2026.
"FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men's first team football coach until 30 June 2026," a statement from the club said.
"The new coach has signed a contract at the Club's offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta."
After leading Bayern Munich to a sextuple of trophies in 2020, Flick was fired by the German national team in September 2023 after a series of poor performances.
However, Barcelona believes they have secured the services of a "champion coach".
The 59-year-old occasionally watched Barcelona games from the presidential box this season and was linked with the position when Xavi announced in January that he would leave at the end of a season in which they came second to Real Madrid in La Liga.
Barcelona and Xavi agreed that he would continue for next season in April, but Laporta changed his mind and fired the former midfield star last week.
