Manchester City came from behind to score a victory over Manchester United 3-1, keeping pace with Liverpool in the English Premier League title chase.

In an intriguing Manchester Derby on Sunday, Phil Foden scored twice in the second half, the first a magnificent shot from outside the box and the second a clever finish from a tight angle, to propel City to a vital victory.

Rashford gave United a surprising lead in the first half with a thunderous, long-range shot which struck the crossbar into the net.

Foden, an England international, scored in the 57th minute before linking up with Julián Álvarez to give City the lead in the last 10 minutes.

By this point, the home team had taken control of the game, and when Sofyan Amrabat was dispossessed by Rodri near to the United goal, Erling Haaland sealed the victory.

“That’s my aim, to turn up in the big games, that’s what I want to do,” Foden told Sky Sports after scoring his 10th and 11th league goals of the season. “I think that this season I’m proving that.”

City, as predicted, dominated much of the game at the Etihad Stadium and was relieved with the second-half twist of events.

The win puts Pep Guardiola's club one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race, a day after the Reds scored a late goal to defeat Nottingham Forest.

It appeared that City was unimpressed by Erling Haaland's missed opportunity to make the scoresheet 1-1 at halftime.
The Norwegian striker, who scored five goals against Luton in the FA Cup earlier this week, was three yards away with an open goal in front of him when he volleyed Foden's headed cross over the bar.
He made amends for his error with a magical finish in extra time, making it his 18th goal of the season.
As United prepares for its Premier League game against Everton on Saturday, the champion faces Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
