Cristiano Ronaldo broke the Saudi Pro League record for most goals in a season when he scored for the 34th and 35th time in Al Nassr's last game.

"I don't follow the records, the records follow me," tweeted the 39-year-old Portuguese forward afterward.

On Monday, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker scored in first-half stoppage time and again in the 69th minute with a header to help Al Nassr defeat Al Ittihad 4-2 at home.

Abderrazak Hamdallah of Morocco set the previous record for most goals scored in a single season in 2018-19 with 34 goals. Al Nassr were already guaranteed of second place, trailing champions Al Hilal by 14 points.

Ronaldo joined Riyadh-based Al Nassr in December 2022, marking the beginning of an invasion of foreign players to the Saudi league on expensive contracts. He is the most capped player in men's international football, having made 206 games and scoring a record 128 goals.

Ronaldo, who led Portugal to victory at the 2016 Euros, has been included to the team for this year's tournament in Germany next month, his 11th international tournament.
