In their final group match, Paris St Germain drew 1-1 with Group F winners Borussia Dortmund late Wednesday night to claim second place and qualification for the Champions League Round 16 stage.

Both teams missed scoring chances in a remarkably goalless first half before German winger Karim Adeyemi broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, sliding in off the post after the visitors lost possession outside the box.

Five minutes later, PSG equalized with teenager Warren Zaire-Emery following superb work from Kylian Mbappe, who also had an effort ruled offside in the 76th minute.

At 17 years and 280 days, Zaire-Emery became the youngest French goalkeeper in Champions League history.

Dortmund led the group with 11 points, while PSG was second with eight, as was third-placed AC Milan, who will continue in the Europa League after a 2-1 win against Newcastle United.

“The primary objective was to go after first place in the group but we have to remain realistic,” said PSG defender Marquinhos.

“It was important to qualify no matter what. From now until the next round, we are going to prepare well and prepare better because big opponents will be on the way.

According to Reuters, the hosts controlled the early chances, but PSG gradually created spaces and threatened with Lee Kang-in in the 16th minute and Mbappe's shot that was cleared at the last second by Niklas Suele a little later.

Bradley Barcola hit the post for the visitors in the 20th minute with a stunning curling effort, then Randal Kolo Muani shot wide twice in one-on-ones with Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.

The Germans had a similar low conversion rate, with PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma palming Marco Reus's shot from inside the box wide.

Adeyemi had an even simpler task in front of an empty net late in the first half, but he shot over.

Six minutes after the restart, the Germany forward made amends, turning in a Niclas Fuellkrug assist and adding further pressure on the visitors, who were keen to escape an early exit from the competition.
