Nigeria's boxing squad has performed admirably at the 13th African Games in Ghana, winning eight impressive gold medals.

The squad, under coach Tony Konyegewachie, had ten of its eleven boxers win medals, making it Nigeria's highest performance in the sport at the Games.

Azania Omo-Agege, interim president of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, praised the athletes for their hard work and devotion, citing a huge victory for Nigerian boxing on the international stage.

Among the gold medallists were Joy Ojo in the women's 57kg division and Dolapo Omole in the men's category, who won by knockout in the first round. Patricia Mbata and Adam Olaore, residing in the United Kingdom, helped Nigeria win gold medals in their respective weight divisions. These victories, together with silver medals in the women's 50kg and 54kg categories, underscored Nigeria's boxing supremacy at the Games.

Nigeria now has eight gold medals in boxing, matching Kenya's record set at the 1987 African Games in Nairobi. Nigeria's overall second-place ranking in the medal table, only behind Egypt, was largely due to the team's performance.

The achievement not only demonstrated Nigerian fighters' talent and potential, but also set a new standard for the country in the African Games boxing tournament.
