Ubah Vows To Expose Frauds In Refineries, Turn Around Maintenance

Ifeanyi Ubah, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) and a senator representing the Anambra South Senatorial District, has pledged to uncover any frauds related to the contracts and administration of Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) at the country's refineries.

Senator Ubah made the promise in a statement provided to reporters following his nomination as head of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Thursday, which was tasked with looking into the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of the country's refineries.

It was also required of the committee to look into every contract that was given for the renovation of the four refineries.

Senator Ubah promised that his committee would fulfil its mandate in the most open, accountable, and thorough way possible. He said that committee members would take a meticulous approach of visiting the refinery sites and interacting with all parties involved in their management as well as the contractors who were given contracts.

According to the announcement, the Nigerian Senate named him as the Chairman of its Ad-hoc Committee on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The committee was established on October 24, 2023, with the goal of looking into the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of the country's refineries.

The committee will also look into all contracts given for the country's four refineries to be renovated. He claimed that in his capacity as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), he would always make sure that the investigation is transparent, accountable, and exhaustive.

He stated that the objective is to find any instances of poor management, corruption, or inefficiencies in the Turn Around Maintenance of the refineries and contracts awarded. He also promised to collaborate closely with the committee members to obtain all relevant data, speak with important stakeholders, and visit the refineries.

Senator Ubah extended appreciation to his fellow senators for their trust in him to lead the committee, assuring them that "as Chairman of this important Ad-hoc Committee I will do everything in my power to fulfil my duties with integrity and diligence."

He said that Nigerians should have faith in the way their refineries operate and how public monies are used.

The legislator pledged that his committee will make every effort to guarantee a comprehensive and equitable investigate, with the ultimate goal of bringing about beneficial changes in the nation's refinery management.
