The attendees include the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. C.G Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla; Chief of Air Staff, AVM H.B. Abubakar, and the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The meeting, which commenced at 3:00 pm local time, marks Tinubu's first known in-person engagement with the security helmsmen since their appointment on June 19. On that day, President Tinubu removed the previous service chiefs who had been in office since his inauguration three weeks earlier and appointed new ones, instructing them to assume their roles immediately.
The decision to replace the service chiefs came in response to persistent calls from civil society organizations for a restructuring of the security architecture and the introduction of fresh perspectives in handling the nation's security challenges.
In his inaugural speech, President Tinubu, who succeeded his fellow party member, President Buhari, on May 29, 2023, pledged to protect the nation from terrorism and all forms of criminality that pose a threat to peace and stability.
He emphasized the need to reform both the security doctrine and its architecture to effectively tackle these challenges. The meeting with the NSA and service chiefs signifies a step towards implementing this commitment and ensuring the safety and security of the country.
