Ahmed Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto State, has established a judicial committee of investigation on Thursday to look into some of the decisions made by Aminu Waziri Tambuwal's former administration while he was in office.
In response to the demands of the people of Sokoto State, who, according to Aliyu, have a right to know how their resources were handled under the previous administration, the judicial panel of inquiry was constituted.
“In order to let people know that I will not compromise, we decided to look for a very competent personality outside the state to be the chairman of the enquiry,” Aliyu said.
Two months have been allotted to the commission to conduct its inquiry and submit a report. The panel's head is Justice Muazu Abdulkadir, a former chief justice of Gombe State.
Aliyu stressed the value of performing their jobs in line with the law during the panel members' swearing-in event.
As a major component of his governance,, as well as his campaign promises to advance accountability and openness, Aliyu reaffirmed his dedication to following through on those promises.
He also emphasized the panel's choice of a highly qualified outsider from another state as chairman, underscoring his dedication to impartiality and expressing trust in the members' spotless character.
After taking the oath, the panel's chairman, Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga, informed the press that the panel would carry out its duties impartially and equitably.
The sale of government properties by the previous administration and the distribution of land to private parties were two of the main topics he listed for the judicial panel of inquiry to look into.
“Others include indiscriminate allocation of lands to people, as well as to confirm how the payment made for such items were utilised,” he added.
The other members of the judicial commission of Enquiry include Chief Jacob Ochidi SAN, Usman Abubakar, Lema Sambo Wali Esq., Alhaji Haliru Dingiyadi, and Nasiru Mohammed Binji Esq., who will serve as the commission’s secretary.
