Senate to Screen Nominees for CBN Governor and Deputy Governors

On Tuesday, the Senate is set to conduct a screening for the position of the Governor of CBN, with Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso, the former Chairman of the Board of Citi Bank Nigeria, in the spotlight.

Additionally, four nominees for the roles of CBN Deputy Governors will undergo scrutiny to work alongside Dr. Cardoso in directing the affairs of the apex bank over the next five years.

According to a statement released by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, representing APC, Ekiti Central, these screenings are scheduled upon the Senate's resumption from its annual recess.

The statement clarified, 'The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will resume plenary on Tuesday, September 26. We will consider the screening of Dr. Cardoso at the Committee of the whole. Dr. Cardoso will be screened alongside four deputy governors, namely Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.'

Furthermore, the Senate has also arranged screenings for ministerial nominees, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, designated as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, scheduled for October 3.

On September 15, President Bola Tinubu endorsed Dr. Cardoso's nomination to serve as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The President also gave his approval for the appointment of four deputy governors, each for a term of five years, pending confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
