The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs convened with the National Assembly Service Commission to address disparities in the recruitment ratios among Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

The committee, chaired by Senator Allwell Iheanacho, emphasized the need for balanced representation in line with federal character principles. The session focused on rectifying the disproportionate employment allocations revealed in the commission’s nominal roll.

The data showed significant imbalances: North Central at 90%, North West at 65%, North East at 64%, South East at 56%, South-South at 66%, and South West at 55%. Senator Iheanacho, speaking to the press after a closed-door meeting with commission representatives, vowed to rectify these inequalities.

He highlighted that the current distribution violates both the committee's principles and the constitutional mandate for unity and equitable representation.

“We are committed to ensuring that all zones receive fair employment opportunities, as mandated by our constitution,” Iheanacho stated. “This imbalance must be addressed to maintain national unity and trust in our federal system.”
