In response to the growing tension between Rivers State's governor, Mr. Similaye Fubara, and his predecessor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the governors, unified under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, have called an emergency meeting to discuss the matter.
It was decided that the emergency meeting would take place by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Governor's Lodge of Akwa Ibom State, Asokoro, Abuja.
Further information revealed that the purpose of the emergency meeting being held by the governors under the auspices of the PDP Governors' Forum is to prevent the crisis in Rivers from getting out of control.
Recall that Wike was appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And among the states ruled by the PDP is Rivers State.
"This emergency meeting has become imperative because we can not afford to close our eyes while things are going wrong," stated a PDP-GF member who wished to remain anonymous.
“As a Forum (PDP-GF), we must act fast to ensure that this crisis doesn’t go out of hands as such will not be to the benefit of anybody.”
The source added that other significant national issues will be discussed at the meeting, in addition to the governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
