The appeal for a truce to settle the political conflict in Rivers by former President Goodluck Jonathan has been commended by Philip Aivoji, the chairman of the PDP in Lagos State who praised the former president in an interview with journalists on Monday.
Jonathan urged Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, to cease heating up the state's political space.
The former president, speaking at the opening of the N222.1 billion Trans-Kalabari Road project on Monday, highlighted the need for Fubara and Wike to put aside their differences and work together to advance the growth and prosperity of Rivers State.
He stressed that the political tension in the state was enormous and concerning, and that it would hinder progress.
According to Jonathan, destabilizing Rivers might lead to political unrest across the country and have a negative effect on the Niger Delta area.
In response to Jonathan's appeal, Aivoji said that the former president was a man with extensive international mediation and conflict resolution expertise.
However, he said that the former president need to go further in telling the opposing sides the truth and pointing out their mistakes to each of them.
He asserts that the former president, as a skilled mediator, needs to go deeply and get into the root of the issue.
