Bishop Mathew Kukah, the founder of the Kukah Centre, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen have urged Nigerians to work towards creating a united country.

The two spoke at the National Integration Conference, which was hosted by the Kukah Centre, themed: "Revisiting the National Question: Nigeria's Elusive Search for National Integration."

Speaking through Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Tajudeen stated that Nigeria's diversity in terms of language, ethnicity, and religion, as well as its pluralism, continues to be important assets to the country.

In his view, Nigeria would become more united and successful in the future if the political philosophy holding the people of different beliefs, backgrounds, and lifestyles can coexist in the same society and participate equally in the political process.

According to him, diversity should be our strategic advantage since it makes the citizens more resilient, innovative, and cohesive. Further strengthening of these processes and the advancement of an inclusive, just, and fair society are the goals of the current constitutional amendment process.

In addition to highlighting the pressing need for nation-building, Kukah asked all Nigerians to put an end to finger-pointing and come together for the sake of their country.

The Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese also stated that there is no need for comparison among people as a result of national integration. Nigerians have a responsibility to comprehend the complexities of managing diversity.

Anyone who identifies as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, according to Kukah, ought to uphold the Constitution and work to build Nigeria.
