The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on the president, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to merge some ministries and reduce the size of presidential staffers with immediate effect.

The Minority leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, In an address to the public on Monday February 20, said it is untenable for the president to appoint more ministers in this current economic crisis. This, according to him, will only place a burden on the public purse, already under distress.

The Minority Caucus demands that, the Chieftaincy Ministry be merged with the Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture merged with the Fisheries. The Minority also wants the Information and communication ministries as well as the Railways and Transport Ministries merged.

The Minority Leader is also calling for the Sanitation and local government Ministry to be merged.

In the address, the Minority is demanding, “Immediate scrapping of all amorphous creations and waste - pipe, job for the boys’ appointment since the assumption of the office of President Akufo Addo in 2017. The work of those undefined amorphous creations must revert to established entities in the civil and public service that perform similar, if not the same functions.”

The group reechoed its call for the ”Dismissal of finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta whose gross incompetence in managing our economy has assumed legendary status. The president must spare Ghanaians the agony of waking up tomorrow to see Ken Ofori - Atta still in charge of the economy”
