The Abia State Police Command has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Ceekay Igara, the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, on Saturday.

According to the police, Igara was invited for questioning following a petition from the party's acting state chairman, who accused him of impersonation.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, it was confirmed that Igara, along with three others, were invited due to allegations of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence.

The statement detailed that the police received a written complaint from the Labour Party’s Acting State Chairman regarding these allegations.

The police report indicated that Igara was questioned at the Command Headquarters and subsequently released on the same day after providing his statement. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

In related developments, the Labour Party has demanded Igara's immediate release, asserting that he was arrested without a warrant while attending a meeting in Aba.

Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, expressed shock over the incident and called for either Igara's release or for him to be charged in court within 24 hours.
