Dr. Tom Fredfish, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a youth activist has criticized the party's top officials' silence over the ongoing issue in Rivers State.
The crisis took a new turn last week when the Appeal Court overturned the Rivers State High Court decision that prohibited the 27 former Rivers State House of Assembly members from parading themselves as lawmakers.
The rivalry began between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor and current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, over control of the state's PDP structure and treasury.
Fredfish expressed his dismay over what he called "the deafening silence of the national leadership of PDP and key elders and stakeholders of the party" in an interview with journalists yesterday in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. He emphasised that "they should speak now or bury their heads in shame."
He said that it would be betrayal to say nothing in the face of powerful groups that have vowed to thwart the plans of PDP governor Sim Fubara. Even more astonishing is the fact that former vice president Atiku Abubakar has been vocal in his criticism of the APC-led administration almost every other day, while remaining silent on the acts of undemocratic behaviour occurring in Rivers State.
