The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector General of Police to promptly enforce the court order that requires Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari, the former resident electoral commissioner (REC) of Adamawa State, to be arrested for prosecution.

The party said that there is a clear and present threat to democracy and the rule of law posed by the delay in the early and thorough prosecution of Ari for his alleged illegal conduct during the Adamawa State gubernatorial election in 2023.

During a press conference, PDP national publicity secretary Hon. Debo Ologungaba recalled that Ari had openly tried to undermine our country's constitutional democratic rule by attempting to impose an illegal government in Adamawa State, which was against Section 1(2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) Constitution."

The speaker further narrated how Ari "attempted, while results were still being collated, to override the will of the people of Adamawa State in the Saturday, April 15, 2023, election by illegally declaring the candidate of the defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner."

Ologungaba said, Ari's actions amounted to a "civilian coup" that attempted to subvert the country's sovereignty, precipitated a major crisis in Adamawa State, and jeopardised the safety and security of the country.

According to the PDP spokesperson, Ari has been evading arrest since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed him from office and declared Governor Ahmed Fintiri the legitimate and constitutionally elected governor of Adamawa State after the collation process.
