The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for the election of a new National Chairman from the North-Central region.

This decision comes in the wake of former Chairman Iyorchia Ayu's surprising withdrawal of all pending appeals against the party, clearing the path for a significant leadership change. Ayu's move hailed as an act of party patriotism and commitment, was confirmed by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria in Makurdi, Benue State.

The withdrawal of the appeal, which challenged Ayu's removal from office, signifies a pivotal moment in PDP's internal dynamics. Reacting to Ayu's decision, G60 PDP lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly expressed their appreciation for his action. Led by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere Ideato Rep, they emphasized that Ayu's withdrawal removed the last obstacle for the Acting Chairman, Umar Damagun, to step down and allow for the election of a North-Central candidate.

The lawmakers, who have been advocating for party reform, highlighted that Ayu's action leaves no room for Damagun to continue holding onto power. They reiterated their stance that the election of a North-Central candidate as National Chairman is imminent during the upcoming NEC meeting. Despite alleged plots by certain elements within the party purportedly working for the All Progressive Congress (APC), the lawmakers affirmed that Damagun's resignation is inevitable.

The stage is now set for a pivotal moment in PDP's leadership, with the anticipation of a new chapter under a North-Central National Chairman.
