Adegboyega Oyetola, the former Governor of Osun State, has expressed his gratitude to Ademola Adeleke for the Supreme Court decision that confirmed his victory as Governor of the State.
Oyetola had hauled Adeleke before the Election Petition Tribunal after the July 16 governorship election claiming that the political race was damaged with inconsistencies, requesting that the court return him as the appropriately chosen governor.
Oyetola's claim that Adeleke did not receive the legal majority of votes was upheld by the tribunal, which declared Oyetola the winner.
However, the Court of Appeal overturned the lower court's decision that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had declared Adeleke's victory.
Additionally, the Supreme Court upheld Adeleke's victory as the legitimately elected Governor of the State.
Oyetola said that despite the fact that the verdict of the Supreme Court was against the wishes of his party's members and supporters, he accepted it for the sake of the state's peace and development in a statement that he personally signed and distributed to journalists by his spokesperson, Ismail Omipidan.
The former governor appealed to supporters, members of his political party, the All Progressives Congress, or APC, and voters who cast ballots for him in the governorship election on July 16, 2022, to accept the verdict as God's will and move on.
"We emphatically accept we introduced a decent case under the steady gaze of the High Court; however , the Court suspected something and has given its decision. While the result is against our desire and that of our party individuals and allies, we undeniably will undoubtedly acknowledge it as honest residents.
Oyetola encouraged APC members and supporters to prepare for the party's upcoming tasks and asked them not to be sad or depressed about the Court's decision. He also expressed gratitude to the party leadership at the state and national levels for their dedication and assistance throughout the legal dispute.
