Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke fired about 30,000 youth workers from the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme, also known as O-YES, creating another different program, tagged “Imole Youth Corps".
In a circular that was distributed by the Secretary to the Osun State Government, According to Teslim Igbalaye, the state government, the decision was made to reposition the youth empowerment program that had been handed down from the previous administration for efficient functionality, long-term viability, and respect for labor.
It should be recalled that former Governor Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola introduced the OYES on December 17, 2010, to fulfill a promise he had made to the people.
In the state's 31 local government areas, including the Ife East Area Office, the OYES program gave about 30,000 volunteers new skills.
Mr. Oyetola, the state's immediate past governor, emphasized in 2019 that the OYES is a wonderful legacy program that must be maintained despite a lack of funds because it significantly reduced restlessness, poverty, and the likelihood of vices among the state's youth
He said that an unengaged youth is a tool for the devil's vices and increased the cadet stipend from N10,000 to N12,500, as well as the allowance for OYES teachers' corps from N10,000 to N15,000
However, according to a statement obtained by our correspondent, Adeleke has stated that prospective youths will be able to obtain free application forms for the new scheme from Friday, February 17, 2023, in all local governments, including the state's Ife East Area Office.
After some OYES cadets wrote a letter pleading with the government to pay their December and January allowances, the governor took this action a few days later.
