Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, declared on Friday that his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), is not composed of ghost members. This statement was made in Osogbo during a meeting with Osun PDP stakeholders.
His comments were a veiled reference to a statement made by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who questioned the authenticity of the APC's reported 45 million membership during the launch of their e-membership registration and 'Train-the-Trainer' workshop in Abuja on Thursday.
Basiru had expressed doubts about the APC's membership numbers, suggesting they were inflated for undisclosed strategic reasons.
He pointed out that during the 2023 election, the APC's presidential candidate, now President Bola Tinubu, struggled to secure fewer than 10 million votes to win the election.
Addressing the gathering of PDP supporters and leaders, Governor Adeleke emphasized the need to update the PDP register in Osun State as directed by the party's national leadership.
He urged for a thorough and genuine registration process to ensure that real people, not fictitious entries, are captured in the party's records.
"We must not discriminate against each other. We are a family of progressive comrades. We are not enemies but allies in the struggle to deliver the dividends of democracy using our party as a platform.
To that end, we must urgently update our register in line with the directive from the national headquarters. The registration exercise must be thorough and real.
We should not act like another party that falsified their party membership register. We must ensure real men and women rather than ghosts are registered as party members".
Governor Adeleke assured PDP members of his commitment to both state development and party unity, calling for solidarity within the party.
