The Osun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace across the state, particularly in communities with a history of boundary disputes.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, made this known at the Olufon of Ifon’s palace during the Olaojo Royal Family Day celebration in Ifon on Sunday.
Alimi emphasized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s determination to prevent communal clashes and urged residents of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun to maintain peaceful coexistence.
“There have been crises in these border communities, leading to loss of lives and properties,” Alimi said, noting that the governor had initiated consultations to address the underlying issues.
The commissioner also warned that the state government would not tolerate actions that could incite unrest, stressing the importance of unity.
“I want you all to know that without peace, we are not going to achieve anything. We should all see ourselves as one. The state government is working hard to put an end to this issue, and I can assure you that we will conclude very soon,” Alimi stated.
Commenting on the event, Alimi commended Oba Peter Ipadeola for fostering unity within the royal family through the celebration.
Meanwhile, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, the Araba Awo of Osogboland, expressed concern over the erosion of traditional values in Nigeria. He urged the people of Ifon to embrace and revive their cultural heritage.
“My message for the people of Ifon is to wake up and revive their culture. They do not know the importance of what they have here. In Brazil today, millions of people are worshippers of Obatala,” Elebuibon said.
The state government continues to engage stakeholders in ensuring lasting peace in Osun’s border communities.
