Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has revealed that his administration inherited over 80 percent of the state’s infrastructural deficit from the previous government.
He made this disclosure at an event organized by the Osun Development Association in Lagos on Sunday, highlighting significant progress made under his leadership.
Adeleke, represented by Chief Lai Orilowo, Group Managing Director of Odua Investment Company Limited, emphasized his administration's commitment to resolving these challenges.
He announced the completion of almost all unfinished projects left by his predecessor and the end of the "half salary" regime for workers.
“Our administration has prioritized paying back the diverted contributory pensions of our senior citizens.
Pensioners are now enrolled in a health insurance scheme funded by the state. We have also reformed the public service, ensuring the regular payment of salaries and promotion arrears,” Adeleke stated.
He underscored the interconnectedness between the formal and informal workforce in Osun, asserting that supporting public servants revitalizes the broader workforce in the state.
Adeleke reiterated his commitment to infrastructure development, noting that his administration retained all inherited contractors, requiring them to fulfill their agreements.
Key projects like the Ikirun-Osogbo dualization, Osogbo Ring Road, and the ongoing Osogbo-Iwo road reflect this commitment.
“Our focus on infrastructure is crucial for the state’s development. Poor infrastructure hinders growth, so we are dedicated to completing inherited projects and initiating new ones,” he added.
Governor Adeleke also called for the support of groups such as the Osun Development Association to advance the state's digital economy, education, health, and agriculture sectors.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who chaired the event, praised the association for its developmental efforts and urged its members to continue leveraging their expertise for the state's growth.
The theme of the program was "A Celebration of Founding Members, Inauguration of Council of Elders, Induction of New Members, and Thought Leadership," reflecting a comprehensive approach to fostering state development through community collaboration and leadership.
