The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a deadline of May 20, 2024 for political parties contesting the next Ondo State gubernatorial election to submit the names of their candidates.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the commission's chairman, announced this while hosting chairmen and other political party leaders to a meeting at INEC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, parties are required to finalise and submit their candidates' names by May 20th, when the candidate portal for the next Ondo gubernatorial election closes.

The meeting is the second quarterly meeting of the year 2024, taking place just four months before the governorship election in Edo State in September. The electoral umpire has already published her final list of candidates and their running mates for the election.

Some of the party chairmen in attendance were the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, the Labour Party's Julius Abure, and the Social Democratic Party's Shehu Gabam.
Yakubu further urged political parties to strictly follow all electoral guidelines during the process.
