The Election Petition Tribunal  in Ondo State has gotten a movement for discontinuance of two out of the nine petitions in regard to the Feb. 25 Public Gathering political race in the state.

Nine petitions regarding the February 25 elections for the National Assembly had already been submitted to the tribunal.

Seven of the petitions were filed in opposition to the state's Senate election, while two were filed in opposition to the House election.

On Wednesday, Mr. Musa Adam, the tribunal's Secretary, informed journalists in Akure that the withdrawn petitions each related to the elections for the Senate and House of Representatives.

Adam explained that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) senatorial candidate for the Ondo North Senatorial District, Dr. Olusegun Phillips-Alonge, withdrew his petition challenging the APC candidate's declaration of victory over Pastor Jide Ipinsigba.

He stated that the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency, Mr. Ademuyiwa Ademola, had also withdrawn his petition against the APC candidate, Mr. Oluwabunmi Tunji-Ojo, who INEC had declared the winner.

Adam claims that the tribunal has not yet received a petition challenging the state's House of Assembly election results.

He stated that any dissatisfied candidate had 21 days to file a petition challenging the outcome under the terms of the Electoral Act.

Adam went on to say that once a petition is filed, the law gives it 180 days—or six months—to be finished and decided.
