Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially dissolved his cabinet in preparation for the upcoming swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on November 12.
This decision comes just days before Obaseki concludes his eight-year tenure, which began on November 12, 2016.
The dissolution was announced following a valedictory session held at the Government House in Benin City on November 8, where Obaseki expressed gratitude to his cabinet members for their contributions toward realizing his vision for the state.
The motion to dissolve the State Executive Council for 2020-2024 was moved by Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo and seconded by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.
During the session, cabinet members praised Obaseki's leadership and highlighted his achievements across various sectors. They also presented awards and gifts to honor him, culminating in a dinner celebrating his administration.
As he prepares to leave office, Obaseki noted that his administration is leaving behind a debt of nearly N27 billion for ongoing projects and obligations.
He criticized the APC for allegedly borrowing between N2 billion and N5 billion to finance Okpebholo's inauguration, suggesting that such financial maneuvers could confuse the public during this transition period.
