The judgment dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Isah Ashiru, against Sani's victory.
Sani made this statement during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today later in the day. He emphasized that there should be no room for confusion, explaining the tribunal's 2-1 majority ruling. The tribunal ruled that if the petition had not been dismissed for lacking merit, a supplementary election would have been ordered in 22 polling units within 90 days.
Addressing the reports in certain media platforms (excluding Vanguard) that suggested the tribunal had removed him as the APC candidate, Sani stated, "I think there's no confusion there. Like I said, for some of us who were involved in the draft of the Electoral Act, there's nothing like confusion there."
He continued, "The case was dismissed because it lacked merit. The preliminary objection to the application was made out of time. And of course, if you look at the Electoral Act, that alone has made their case abandoned. That is on the point of law. There are a lot of cases like that."
Governor Sani also mentioned the importance of distinguishing between political and propaganda battles, alleging that the PDP had misinformed and misled certain media houses. He expressed disappointment in the haste of "reputable media houses" to publish news before the final ruling was made.
While emphasizing the importance of freedom of expression on social media, Sani called for caution and noted that people should be allowed to express themselves. He concluded, "What is more important is that the ruling has been made, the case has been dismissed, and there is nothing anybody can do because it is on the point of law."
