The decision by the Presidency to buy new luxury jets for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been condemned by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), calling it unreasonable and a glaring example of the government's detachment from reality.

Recall that reports from sources close to the presidency said the new aircraft would improve the President's security and comfort on official travels.

Many Nigerians, on the other hand, continue to be outraged by the purchase because they see it as a needless investment and an indication that the government is disconnected from its citizens.

Muhammed Ishaq, the party's acting national publicity secretary, signed a statement published by the PRP on Monday, criticising the government for putting the President's pleasure ahead of the well-being of Nigerians, who are facing poverty and economic hardship.

The PRP also questioned why the government is not taking note of other countries' experiences, such as China and the US, which have been using their presidential planes for 24 and 34 years, respectively, and pointed out that the Presidential jet that was acquired in 2003 is just 19 years old.

The PRP insisted that the government re-evaluate this unnecessary spending and concentrate on providing the Nigerian people with real benefits.

The party went on to urge all well-meaning Nigerians to stand with them in condemning this careless spending spree and pressing their leaders to improve government.
