The Kwara State Police Command has successfully apprehended seven individuals linked to high-profile murders in Ilorin, including a suspect involved in the brutal killing of hotelier Anthony Kayode Balogun.
During a press briefing in Ilorin on Friday, Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya revealed that Abolarin Samuel Idowu, also known as Sam Caro, 37, was arrested at a hideout near a Conoil filling station in Ita Alamu, Ilorin. Idowu, identified as a member of the notorious Eiye secret cult, is accused of participating in the murder of Balogun on August 8, 2024. The killing, allegedly orchestrated by cultists, was said to be a revenge mission tied to an earlier conflict during a cult anniversary in 2022.
At the time of Idowu’s arrest, police recovered a locally fabricated gun and three live cartridges. According to Commissioner Olaiya, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the murder, alongside accomplices identified as Alowonle, aka Aloo, and Samuel, aka Sam Febee-Kay. The police later recovered additional weapons, including two locally-made shotguns, a cut-to-size gun, a battle axe, and various other dangerous items from multiple criminal hideouts.
In a separate case, six suspects were arrested for their involvement in the murder of 21-year-old Awesu Mojisola, a graduating student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa. The victim was lured to a hotel in Ilorin under false pretenses by Adebayo Joshua Happiness, an expelled final-year student of Summit University, Offa. Mojisola was promised N15,000 to attend a non-existent sign-out party but was instead brutally murdered and her body unlawfully disposed of by hotel staff.
The investigation into these cases is ongoing, with all suspects now facing charges of criminal conspiracy and tampering with evidence.
