Men, women, and children flocked to the streets of Kano to celebrate the Supreme Court's ruling that affirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the state's legitimately elected governor.

Joyous citizens flocked to the city's streets, reciting patriotic songs and dancing while holding signs bearing the logos of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Mahdi Yusuf, a resident of Soron Dinki in the Kano metropolitan area, expressed satisfaction for the Supreme Court's ruling, claiming it prevented a violent response from the locals.

“Supreme Court has saved Kano from violent reaction because if the decision had gone the other way, not even the security would have contain the situation.

“But with what you are seeing now, there is relief all over. People are spontaneously coming out to celebrate and tension and violence have been averted,” he stated.

People have started opening their stores and places of business on their own initiative at the Rimi and Kantin Kwari markets, which were first closed in the wee hours of Friday due to uncertainty.

Earlier , the State Police Command issued a warning against uncontrolled celebrations that can result in property and loss of life.

But the uneasy calm that was earlier noted has instantly given way to wild revelries in the streets of Kano City.

Meanwhile, security has been increased along all routes leading to Kano's Government House, preventing people from approaching the seat of power while the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is expected to arrive from Abuja.
