Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate for the governorship election in Edo State, has denied any involvement in the removal of the state's former Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu.

In a statement released by his media team on Monday, Ighodalo dismissed the allegation as false, stating that it was fabricated to tarnish his image. The statement read, "Although we do not usually respond to every passing comment, it has become necessary to address the current accusations made by former Deputy Governor Phillip Shaibu.

Mr Asue Ighodalo had absolutely nothing to do with the impeachment of Mr Shuaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly. He firmly refutes these baseless allegations, which are solely intended to damage his reputation and divert attention from the real issues."

Ighodalo urged the public and the media to disregard the claim, saying that he was committed to running a governorship campaign focused on issues and free from distractions.

On April 8, the state House of Assembly removed the embattled state deputy governor after adopting the report of a seven-man investigative panel set up by the state Chief Judge to investigate allegations of misconduct against Shaibu. Comrade Shaibu was investigated on charges of perjury and leaking of government secrets.
