Osogbo-based Ifa Priest Ifayemi Elebuibon has expressed concern over the recent rise in paternity fraud cases and suggested that Yoruba traditional methods could be a viable alternative for resolving paternity issues.

Speaking to journalists at his home in Osogbo, Osun State, Elebuibon highlighted the cost-effectiveness and reliability of traditional paternity determination methods for those unable to afford DNA tests.

Elebuibon attributed the high rate of infidelity in marriages to the rejection of Yoruba culture, noting that traditional practices offer potent solutions for determining a child's paternity.

“In Yoruba culture, paternity can be determined even during childbirth. For instance, in my own compound, a new wife would swear an oath before the Ogun shrine to remain faithful to her husband.

Such traditional methods are available for those interested,” Elebuibon stated.

The importance of DNA testing in paternity cases was underscored by a website, Verywell Family, which describes it as a crucial tool for establishing biological relationships.

The ongoing marital dispute between Nigerian striker Olarenwaju Kayode and his estranged wife, Ezinne Kayode, highlights the significance of paternity testing, as does the legal action filed by the family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, seeking a DNA test for his alleged son.

Elebuibon's call for the consideration of traditional methods reflects a broader conversation about cultural practices and modern technology in resolving sensitive family issues.
